How to use Add Integer Digits

  1. 1. Paste the integers. Enter one or more integers separated by commas, spaces or newlines. Each one is treated independently, with the tool summing its individual digits.
  2. 2. Decide whether to reduce to one digit. Turn on Sum until a single digit to keep adding the resulting digits together until only one remains, which is the digital root. Leave it off to see just the first-pass sum.
  3. 3. Read the digit sums. Each line of output shows the digit sum for the matching input integer, in the same order they were entered, ready to copy into a spreadsheet or notes.

When to use Add Integer Digits

Add Integer Digits computes the sum of an integer's digits, and optionally reduces that sum repeatedly down to a single digit known as the digital root. Use it whenever you need this quick arithmetic property without doing it by hand.

  • Checking a numerology-style calculation. Someone claims a birth date or product code reduces to a particular digital root. Paste the number in with reduction enabled and verify the claimed result in one step.
  • Verifying a checksum by hand. Some simple checksum schemes rely on the sum of digits modulo a small number. Get the raw digit sum here before applying the rest of the checksum formula yourself.
  • Teaching digit sum and divisibility rules. The classic rule that a number is divisible by 9 if its digit sum is also divisible by 9 is easier to demonstrate when the tool computes the sum for a batch of examples at once.
  • Batch-processing a column of IDs. A spreadsheet has a column of order numbers and you need the digit sum of each for a quick sanity filter. Paste the whole column in and read off one sum per line.

About the Add Integer Digits tool

Add Integer Digits runs as plain JavaScript in your browser tab, with no server behind it. Find the sum of all the digits in an integer. Whatever you put in stays on your device from start to finish.

The tool is part of EditSafely's Integer Tools section, 133 single-purpose utilities built around the same idea: open the page, get the result, keep your data to yourself.

You can shape the output with the Sum until a single digit setting, and the result refreshes the moment you change it. 2 worked examples further down the page show exactly what the tool produces for real inputs.

That local-first design has practical benefits beyond privacy. The tool keeps working on a flaky connection once the page has loaded, results are instant because nothing round-trips to a server, and it is safe to use with confidential material.

Frequently asked questions

Does Add Integer Digits cost anything?

Yes, it is completely free. All 2,658 tools on EditSafely work without an account, a subscription or usage limits.

Is it safe to paste sensitive or confidential data?

No data leaves your device. The whole tool is JavaScript that runs inside your browser tab, so there is no upload, no server-side processing and no log of what you did. If you disconnect from the internet after the page loads, it keeps working.

How much text can I process at once?

There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your own device rather than on a shared server, the practical ceiling is your machine's memory, which comfortably handles inputs far larger than typical online tools allow.

Do I need to sign up or install anything?

Nothing to install and no account needed. Open the page in any up-to-date browser, including on a phone or tablet, and the tool is ready.

How do I use the result?

The output panel has a one-click copy button, and you can keep refining the input while you work; the result updates in place as you type.
