How to use Pick a Winner
- 1. Paste your list of participants. Enter each participant's name on its own line in the input pane, such as Ava, Ben, and Chloe, one entrant per line.
- 2. Set how many winners to draw. Enter Items to pick to control how many winners the tool selects, and toggle Allow the same item to be picked twice off if each winner must be unique.
- 3. Copy the winner list. Copy the drawn name or names from the output pane and announce them, whether for a giveaway, raffle, or contest.
When to use Pick a Winner
Pick a Winner draws one or more names at random from a list of entrants, useful whenever you are running a raffle, giveaway, or contest and need a fair, quick way to select a winner from the list you paste in.
- Running a giveaway on a social media post. You collected comments or entries from a giveaway post and pasted the names in, then draw one winner at random to keep the selection process transparent to entrants.
- Selecting multiple prize winners for a raffle. A community event is giving away several prizes and needs to draw multiple unique winners from the entrant list without any name being picked twice.
- Choosing a random reviewer for a study. A research team has a list of eligible participants and wants to randomly select who takes part in a follow-up interview, keeping the selection process unbiased.
- Drawing names for a gift exchange. You have a list of coworkers for a holiday gift exchange and want to draw one or more names randomly to assign or select who goes first.

About the Pick a Winner tool
Pick a Winner does its work locally, right in the browser. Quickly pick one or more winners from many participants. There is no upload step, no queue and no account, and your data never travels over the network.
It belongs to the Random Tools collection on EditSafely, a set of 120 small, focused Random utilities that share the same instant, private workspace.
You can shape the output with 2 settings, including Items to pick and Allow the same item to be picked twice, and the result refreshes the moment you change one. A worked example further down the page shows exactly what the tool produces for a real input.
Running locally also makes the tool fast and dependable: results appear as you type or drop a file, there is no server outage that can take it down mid-task, and confidential data can be processed without a second thought.
Frequently asked questions
Does Pick a Winner cost anything?
Yes, it is completely free. All 2,658 tools on EditSafely work without an account, a subscription or usage limits.
Is it safe to paste sensitive or confidential data?
No data leaves your device. The whole tool is JavaScript that runs inside your browser tab, so there is no upload, no server-side processing and no log of what you did. If you disconnect from the internet after the page loads, it keeps working.
How much text can I process at once?
There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your own device rather than on a shared server, the practical ceiling is your machine's memory, which comfortably handles inputs far larger than typical online tools allow.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
Nothing to install and no account needed. Open the page in any up-to-date browser, including on a phone or tablet, and the tool is ready.
How do I use the result?
The output panel has a one-click copy button, and you can keep refining the input while you work; the result updates in place as you type.
