How to use Proper-case a String
- 1. Paste your text. Enter the text you want cased into the input pane, such as a name typed in all lowercase or a title with inconsistent capitalization.
- 2. Read how casing is applied. There are no settings; the tool uppercases the first letter of every word and leaves every other character exactly as it was, unlike title case which also forces the rest lowercase.
- 3. Copy the result. Copy the properly cased text from the output pane into a form field, a title, or anywhere each word should start with a capital letter.
When to use Proper-case a String
Proper-case a String capitalizes the first letter of each word while leaving the rest of every word untouched, which distinguishes it from title case tools that also force the remaining letters lowercase. It's the right choice when a string already contains meaningful capitalization, like acronyms, that shouldn't be flattened.
- Capitalizing a name without breaking an acronym. A name like hello WORLD should become Hello WORLD, keeping the acronym intact, rather than Hello World which would lowercase the second word's remaining letters incorrectly.
- Fixing all-lowercase form submissions. A signup form stored a user's name in all lowercase and you want each word capitalized for display, without altering any letters after the first in each word.
- Cleaning up a list of product names. A product catalog import has inconsistent capitalization on item names. Applying proper case gives every name a capitalized first letter per word while preserving intentional casing elsewhere.
- Formatting headings pulled from raw data. A CMS field stores section headings in lowercase and you want a quick capitalization pass before displaying them as page headers.

About the Proper-case a String tool
Proper-case a String runs as plain JavaScript in your browser tab, with no server behind it. Uppercase the first letter of every word, leaving the rest as-is. Whatever you put in stays on your device from start to finish.
The tool is part of EditSafely's String Tools section, 159 single-purpose utilities built around the same idea: open the page, get the result, keep your data to yourself.
There is nothing to configure. Provide the input and the result appears on its own. A worked example further down the page shows exactly what the tool produces for a real input.
That local-first design has practical benefits beyond privacy. The tool keeps working on a flaky connection once the page has loaded, results are instant because nothing round-trips to a server, and it is safe to use with confidential material.
Frequently asked questions
Does Proper-case a String cost anything?
Yes, it is completely free. All 2,658 tools on EditSafely work without an account, a subscription or usage limits.
Is it safe to paste sensitive or confidential data?
No data leaves your device. The whole tool is JavaScript that runs inside your browser tab, so there is no upload, no server-side processing and no log of what you did. If you disconnect from the internet after the page loads, it keeps working.
How much text can I process at once?
There is no fixed limit. Because the work happens on your own device rather than on a shared server, the practical ceiling is your machine's memory, which comfortably handles inputs far larger than typical online tools allow.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
Nothing to install and no account needed. Open the page in any up-to-date browser, including on a phone or tablet, and the tool is ready.
How do I use the result?
The output panel has a one-click copy button, and you can keep refining the input while you work; the result updates in place as you type.
